Splinters

Splinters was set up by Liz Oliver when she first moved to Cold Ash more than 30 years ago and did not know anyone in the area.   Her new neighbours were kind and welcoming but she missed the social contact that a circle of friends from the area brings.   Liz put a card in the Post Office window inviting likeminded women to join her for a coffee with a view to forming a social group.   Thirty-five women turned up and Splinters was born!

Over the years our numbers and ages have fluctuated, as members leave the area and others arrive. We now have members with school age children and some with grandchildren. This diversity of age and interests makes for a range of interesting events over the year, and some lively discussions at our Wine and Chat evenings.

If there is something a member is interested in seeing or doing, daytime or evening, they send an email to the group and organise the event, tickets etc. It might be a trip to the cinema, theatre, a visit to a beautiful garden or a wine tasting on a summer evening or even a cookery class. Whatever your interest there is sure to be someone else interested too and you may have to limit the numbers.

Some events like the Christmas Wine and Chat, Christmas Dinner and the summer BBQ or safari supper are annual events and some like the BBQ include a “Plus 1”. The Wine and Chat evenings intersperse these events and are held about once a month in members’ homes. There is no obligation to hold a meeting in your home as we know that it can be difficult with families at home.

If you are interested in finding out more about us, email me at the address below and I will give you the details of our next Wine and Chat evening.
